Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy #3) Review

5/5 ☆☆☆☆☆

This third book in the Vampire Academy series is much more darker than the first two.
Our characters relive the horrible events of what happened with Victor Dashkov
when they find out about his trial hearing, and the possibility of him being set free.

Rose and Eddie deal with the death of a friend
and struggle to come to terms with all that they have been through
when they were kidnapped and held by the strigoi.
Lissa is practicing magic again
trying to understand and strengthen her control over her gift
and we all know what happens when she use magic.
Rose might be losing her mind,
unless you count seeing ghosts as something completely normal,
but even among the moroi and dhampir seeing things that aren't there
is not a good sign.

Moroi are being beat up around the academy,
Secrets are being kept,
The queen is making plans for Vasilisa's future,
and the safety of the academy is tested.

There's a storm coming
One that the guardians may not be ready for.
People will die and
Rose will have to chose between the two most import people
to her in the world.

*sigh*
So much stress and Rose still has to worry about graduating
talk about a totally bummer!

Romitri shippers will have a feel trip in this book.
Things are heating up between these two
but it may be only a matter of time before
the truth about their forbidden love comes out.

Origins (Zombie Games #1) Review

 2.5/5   ☆☆

The only reason why this book got two and a half stars is
because the main character, Cassie Wild, actually knew how to defend herself
and isn't a pathetic child how needs a guy to protect her every two seconds.
 She's brave,
bold,
smart,
She's a black belt
and daddy taught her how to use a gun!

The book was was okay.
It wasn't a complete loss. I liked it enough to not gag.
It was an easy read and it is definitely the type of book you read
if you just want to sit back and relax.
The story line isn't too complicated and it won't give you a major headache
and the fighting scenes aren't so graphic that they will give you nightmares
if you decided to read this before bed.

The lack of zombie activity seriously made me want to beat the crap out of the book
but that's a big no, no since I was reading it my nook
and I kind of love my nook.
Usually at the beginning of a zombie apocalypse the world is
kind of overruned by hungry and vicious zombies not these lameos.
I was expecting a lot more chaos than this.
[[Yeah, I said lameos]]

I was also really looking forward to the romance between Cassie and Bryce
but it got really annoying with Eva (the local queen bitch) throwing herself
at him every two seconds and I hardy doubt that any guy is as dumb
as he is to not understand what is going on.
One minute he's all "I really like you blah blah blah"
to Cassie and the next he's letting the little trap hang all over him
and Cassie is trying very hard not to just kill Eva herself.
Seriously the girl has more self control then I do because if that was my guy
Eva would be taking a few lessons on
personal space...

Then there is this random solider who only knew Cassie for like five seconds
and he's obsessed with keeping her safe
-as if she wasn't capable of doing it herself.
I swear when I get to the next book, if I find myself reading about
another obsessed guy bending over backwards to protect Cassie
because she is a girl or because she is cute,
even though she can pretty much take on half the people in her group,
I am going to go on a craze rant about how completely idiotic and pointless
all the male characters in this book are and not even bother to continue reading
 the series and just

I have read better zombie novel but when it comes to a series
you can't always judge it by only the first book
so hopefully the next books will be filled with a lot more action.
This is after all the end of the world
.... right?

Frostbite (Vampire Academy #2) Review

4.5/5 ☆☆☆☆

Everyone knows that love is complicated.
Love is never easy when you're trying to figure things out
even more so when you're a seventeen year old dhampir in love with your twenty-four year old mentor.
A mentor who may be moving on to an older woman who can give him everything you can not.

But who cares about love triangle nowadays
they're not nearly as complicated as
a love ...square? ... rectangle?
or maybe it's a circle.
ugh!
help me out here, please!

Rose is definitely in love Dimitri.
Dimitri might have the hots for Tasha Ozera
(she definitely has it for him)
Mason would die for Rose
and there's this new royal moroi, Adrian Ivashkov
who's constantly flirting with her.

Yeaahh... Love's a mess
and no matter which relationship you ship
you will still end up like
Josh Dallas in my next gif
And gawd I want to say more about that
but David Tennant is telling me to

So let me just jump right into the real drama here.
In the last book we learned that Lissa has a very special,
very rare set of abilities that put her
in danger of not only strigoi,
but her fellow moroi as well.
A guardians job couldn't get anymore harder.
Except ... well, until they soon find out that
life as they all know it will never be the same.

Strigoi are out right attacking moroi
and dhampir in large groups with outside help.
Now if you know anything about the strigoi in this book then
you know that between the blood thirst,
savage killings and complete lack of
morality that strigoi usually end up  attacking each other unless there's
a yummy "snack" near by.
The strigoi often work alone or in small groups of maybe
two or three, but now
They're doing the impossible and are working together.
They're organized,
and it seems no matter how many trained guardians or wards the moroi put up
no one is safe anymore.
Not even during the day.
They're breaking all the rules of typical strigoi behavior
and unless the moroi and dhampir can keep up
there is going to be a lot less of them
and a whole lot of strigoi to fight off.

"'This changes everything doesn't it?' I asked
'Yeah,' he said.'It does'" - FrostBite, Rose and Dimitri

Vampire Academy Review

4/5  ☆☆☆☆

If you have been unlucky enough to have seen the movie before reading the book
-as I have- then I want you to forget everything you saw and felt about the movie.
Forget about the actors, the acting, the storyline...everything.
Just shake it all out of that pretty little head of yours.
If you loved it, hated it, somewhat liked it, I don't care.
 forget it!
Forget it all and read Vampire Academy and then decide how you feel about it.

The movie is good, I liked it, but I might be a little bias because one of my lady crush stars as the bad ass Rose Hathaway.

This book is the perfect example of "The book is better than the movie" line you hear from every die hard bibliophile.

Rosemary Hathaway is a kick ass Dhampir who has dedicated her life to protecting the Moroi -  Most importantly her best friend Vasilisa- against the strigoi.
Strigoi are undead vampires whose purpose in life is pretty much to drain blood and life
out of every moroi, dhampire and human they come across.

Vasilisa Dragomir is a Moroi Princess.
The Dragomir's are one of the twelve royal families and  Lissa is the last of her bloodline.

Some time after the accident that killed her entire family, Lissa began noticing some weird things happening to and around her. The usually sweet and caring Lissa would experience violent mood swings, depression and sometimes got the feeling that someone was watching her.

After what happened to their teacher Ms. Karp and her warning about Lissa
Rose does not hesitate in deciding to take Lissa away from St.Vladimir Academy
to hide and live among humans to protect her.

Two years on the run and the girls are caught and dragged back to the academy.

St. Vladimir is supposed to be a safe environment for both moroi and dhampirs
but when Lissa starts getting threats in the form of dead animals in her dorm room
and attacks against her from a jealous, stuck up, royal wannabe
Rose goes on high alert and steps up her game as guardian
and if you read this book you'll know that Rose is the type to punch first and find out who she actually hit later.
*incoming Rosemary Hathaway gifs*

If you haven't read Vampire Academy yet you should
and if all of the action isn't enough to get you to read this then please for the love of Romitiri (Rose+Dimitri)
pick up the book!

Richelle Mead is killing my heart with the adorableness of these two
and just look what it's doing to Amy Pond!

The Nightlife : New York Review

5/5 ☆☆☆☆☆
[17+]
[Excuse me while I do my best Kenzi (lost girl) Impression]
Lap dances, strippers, escorts, oh my!
Vampires, blood, sex, oooh my...
Masters, blood slaves, corruption,  ooh crap balls!

***

The Nightlife: New York by Travis Luedke is exciting, violent and sexy!

This violently sexy story introduces us to Aaron Pilan, a young man who has been emotionally neglected by both his estranged mother and ex-girlfriend.
His only friends are Delia , a bratty and selfish ex, and his roommate Kyle.
Aaron lives his life day to day and has depressingly fallen into a routine of work, buying beer for his friends,  pining over his ex.

His life sort of resembles that of Wesley Gibson from the movie Wanted.
If you saw the movie then you know that
Wesley had a depressing life of:
lousy job
 bitchy girlfriend
 shitty friend
 eat, sleep, shit
and if he was lucky things got really exciting
when his body decides to give him a good ol panic attack.
So, yeah... basically he was a flat out loser.
Until fate put him in the path of the most beautiful woman he has ever seen.
For Wesley it was a smoking hot female named Fox.
For Aaron it was the beautiful Michelle.

Turns out Michelle is a vampire.
Aaron's first encounter with Michelle leads to him getting shot
after she is forced to defend herself against two disgusting and corrupt cops.
She briefly considers leaving him to die but his attempt to
save her from the other two men made her feel a bit
responsible for him being injured.
Guilt gets the better of her
and she decides to do what she promised herself
she would never do.
She saves his life, although by doing so
she has not only turned him into what she is,
but has also bound him to her for eternity
 - a lifetime of servitude.

She may be his master and he her servant,
but to Aaron being bound to his savior is the best thing that could ever happen to him.
Even if that does mean leaving everything he knows behind
Or that she is probably a bit psychotic.
One mistake could cause him to lose his life at the hands of this beautiful creature
yet he couldn't imagine a life without her.
Turns out Aaron is a natural at being a vampire
and soon learns to love his
new life with Michelle
but things go downhill pretty fast for our vampiric duo
when a couple of corrupt cops are out for revenge against Michelle
and Delia's jealously kicks in
but Michelle's quick and violent temper and trust issues might be the real threat.

Devour Review

4/5☆☆☆☆

We all know what happens when an immortal being and a human fall in love.
All hell breaks lose!
Eli is a devour.
His kind feeds off of the negative emotions that humans feel.
They force them in to a reverie and well mostly scare the living poo out of them
so that they can feed.
They think highly of themselves and believe themselves to be the superior race over all species.

Although it is his nature to be -what he considers - evil, he fights it.
For years he has fought his nature yearning to be human,
refusing to force fear or lust (or any negative emotions) onto people, he feeds on  whatever emotion someone may be feeling as he passes by.
Of course for someone of his kind that is an impossible way to live
and he suffers dearly for it.
Until he meets Clara.
For some reason Clara is different to him.
He can feel positive emotions from her, something that he has never felt before.
He grow an attachment towards her,but as they grow closer and their bond grows stronger trouble finds it's way toward them.

The devourer counsel is after them now -thanks to a jealous and vindictive devourer named Angelina- Eli because he is a traitor to his kind and Clara... well, because she is simply human.

The First days (as the world dies) Review

5/5  ☆☆☆☆☆

Another amazing Zombie Book !
The First Days is the first book in the As the world dies trilogy.

Here we have Katie and Jenni - two women thrown together in this new world of death and mayhem.

Jenni watched her abusive husband eat her children
and stood in horror as she watched them both die and came back to life.
 No, not life.
Whatever they were they weren't living.
They were vicious creatures with an intense hunger for human flesh and their main course was their own mother and wife.

Katie was attacked on her way to work by a man who had his guts hanging out, but the real trauma for her was when she fled home only to witness that her beautiful wife had turned and was savagely attacking their mailman.

Together these two completely different women develop a strong bond.
They do everything  they can to survive in this new world and soon find out that although they would do anything to have their old lives back, where everyone they love is still alive, they were
Made for this world.
Jenni is pretty great with a rifle and a bit trigger happy.
Katie too seems to have adapted to this new world doing all that she can to survive and protect her new home, and yea she's also handy with a gun.

In this story you'll meet a bunch of characters each with different personalities and each struggling in their own way to over come the losses they have all suffered.
Together our survivors learn to accept new friendship, love, tragedy, and all the complications that comes along with the end of the world.

Shiver Review

4/5 ☆☆☆☆
Grace has always been fascinated by wolves.
Despite being pulled of her tire swing and being attacked by a pack of wolves she can't help her obsession with them, especially for the yellow eyed wolf who saved her life.

Sam is a boy with a troubled past, a complicated life and an even worrisome future. When Sam was just a kid he was bitten by a wolf which in time turned him into one. Through out the summer and warm temperated seasons he is  allowed to live his life a human, but when winter comes and the air is cold the wolf comes out.
He can't control it and there is no cure and worse of all this may be his last year turning into a human.
Like all shifters Sam is running out of time.
Every shifter has an expiration date- when they stop going back and forth between human and wolf. It's a curse he cant escape but at least as a wolf he can watch over her.

From the edge of the woods in her back yard he is there, watching her. He's there during the winter days watching, but so is she. She knows he's out there. her wolf. The wolf that saved her six years ago. He is always there
.
When a local boy dies and the wolves are threatened Sam ends up on Grace's back door wounded with a bullet hole in his neck. Grace should be scared of this stranger in her backyard, but one look into his eyes and she knows it's him. Her wolf, only he isn't a wolf any more.
Together they fight against unbeatable odds, a jealous wolf and the possible exposure of what Sam is. Can their love get them through the chaos of Sam's world and even more importantly can they hold of winter to keep Sam from changing back into a wolf permanently?

***
I have no idea what to say other then READ THE FREAKIN BOOK!
This book was pretty interesting.
A whole new side to this werewolf-thing-a-ma-jig.
Here is a story where the curse of the wolf is actually a curse.

So, I don't usually read book like this, but both Silence and Broken Silence were flipping fantastic.
It was hard reading this story. I can not imagine what it must be like to go through something like this and I pray for all the Oakley's out there in the real world. I pray and hope that they know that they are not alone and that it is okay to speak up and be brave.

Natasha Preston did a wonderful job at writing these books and I am sure I will be reading more of her stories soon.
